Pakistani overstayers
Vidyasagar Rao, Minister of State for Home Affairs, said that
some 9,035 Pakistanis were found to have overstayed in India after their visas
expired in July last year; 2,299 could not be traced.
He said the disappearance of the overstaying Pakistanis is a serious
matter now in the light of heightened tensions between the two countries.
However, he emphasized that the government is sympathetic to Pakistanis
married to Indian women, and is considering extending their visas.
