Jordanian recruiter to face charges over stranded migrant workers

Lawyer Atef Majali of the National Center for Human Rights (NCHR) is awaiting information from the ministries of interior and labor that would serve as evidence for a lawsuit he is preparing against a Jordanian recruiting agency. The suit would be in behalf of eight stranded workers, including two Nepalese and six Indians, who were part of some 280 migrant workers that the agency trafficked into Jordan last year. The stranded workers have accumulated overstay fines of $1.41 per day since their arrival because they lacked visas and work permits. Meanwhile, the labor ministry announced that the overstay fines of the workers had been waived and their passports returned to enable them to return home.
