500 migrant workers deported over health concerns
According to the Health Ministry, 500 migrant workers who tested positive for hepatitis B upon arriving in the Kingdom were deported in the first half of 2006 in accordance with a regulation issued early last year. Most of those deported were domestic workers from Indonesia, the Philippines and Sri Lanka. The move is to safeguard the health of Jordanian families employing the foreign domestic workers. Meanwhile, foreign workers who tested positive for tuberculosis do not get deported but receive treatment in Jordan at the ministry’s expense.
