INTERNATIONAL DAY
OF SOLIDARITY WITH MIGRANTS

The International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families was adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on 18 December 1990. As part of an international campaign for the ratification of the Covention, the Asian Partnership on International Migration (APIM), in cooperation with the Philippine Migrants Rights Watch, launched 18 December as International Day of Solidarity with Migrants. The launching was organized by the Scalabrini Migration Center and held at the United Nations Building in Manila in cooperation with international organizations on 18 December 1997. An account of interventions pronounced on that occasion was published in Asian Migrant, January-March 1998 and it is available on line as a PDF file.
