As the world marked Labour Day on Wednesday, Jordan's Labour Ministry said it continues its efforts to organise the labour sector with inspection campaigns to detect illegal guest workers.

AMMAN — The Labour Ministry on Saturday said its labour inspectors have caught hundreds of guest workers in violation of labour regulations and a decision has been taken to repatriate them.

The [Jordanian] Ministry of Labour is planning a joint inspection campaign with security agencies to crack down on illegal guest workers after the grace period granted to them concludes on March 7, a ministry secretary official said on Tuesday.

The [Jordanian] Ministry of Labour on Monday opened a 60-day grace period for guest workers in the Kingdom who need to rectify their legal status.

The number of guest workers in the Kingdom with valid work permits stood at 235,258 at the end of 2012, the Ministry of Labour’s end-of-year statistics showed.
