Working abroad is a dream that nurse Nguyen Hoang Lan has nurtured for years. "I have thought about it since I was single, although I couldn't figure out why," says Lan, who is now mother to a five-year-old girl and is expecting another child.

(VNS) ASEAN nations will pilot a free labour market for skilled workers and professionals in 2015 as part of a plan to integrate the region economically. This will enable workers to move freely in the region. However, little information on the process has been made available. Most Vietnamese have never heard of the scheme.

The bank surveyed over 5,000 respondents in four continents based on a number of factors such as earning levels, disposable income and ability to purchase luxury goods.

The youths, most of whom have never set foot on a plane, are off to become guest workers abroad. They hope to save hundreds of millions of dong in a couple of years, something they could never do back home.

Notably, some of them had committed illegal activities in Vietnam for two years without being detected.

The labor ministry in South Korea has informed its Vietnamese counterpart it will stop receiving Vietnamese laborers after an increase in the number of Vietnamese workers trying to stay in the country illegally.

Phan Van Minh, director of the centre, said that South Korea has stopped recruiting new Vietnamese workers.
