HA NOI (VNS)— No more Vietnamese workers would be sent to South Korea this year, according to the Overseas Worker Centre under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.

The three-story building in the town of Yegoryevsk, about 100 kilometres (60 miles) southeast of Moscow, is a former factory, a spokesman for the ministry told AFP. At least one person was hospitalised with injuries, he added.

The number of foreigners working in Vietnam as of July 2012 is more than 77,000, of whom over 24,000 have no work permits, said Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Pham Thi Hai Chuyen.

Minister Chuyen, who was the first minister to be questioned at the session, answered deputies’ questions relating to vocational training, especially in implementing vocational training policies, job creation for ethnic minority people and management of foreign workers in Vietnam .

HA NOI — Foreign workers, bad debt and interest rates were the focus of yesterday's Q&A session at the National Assembly Standing Committee meeting in Ha Noi.

HAI DUONG — Returning from his five-year stint in South Korea as a migrant worker in 2005, including three years at an automobile factory in Busan, Nguyen Thanh Thuy, 36, was able to save a total of US$33,000.

Those from China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia and other Asian countries account 58 percent of the total, from the UK, France and other European countries 28.56 percent, and from other countries 13.5 percent.

August 20:  The Vietnamese central government has requested information from city and provincial governments concerning foreigners working in Vietnam.  The aim is to access compliance with rules concerning the management and administration of foreign workers in Vietnam.
